Wondering what activities the water-park capital of the world, Wisconsin Dells, has to offer during the winter months? Let me take you through some of the most unmissable and enjoyable things I love to do in Wisconsin Dells in winter.

Located in southern Wisconsin, Wisconsin Dells is my go-to destination for fun and adventure. The city is packed with amazing theme parks, mini-golf courses, museums, resorts, and go-karting trails. In my experience, Wisconsin Dells is also one of the best winter destinations in the state.

While summer days are delightful, I can assure you that winters in Wisconsin Dells offer just as many fun and adventurous activities to keep any visitor entertained. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Wisconsin Dells in winter.

1. Go Winter Zip-lining

If you’re like me and have an adventurous streak, zip-lining in Wisconsin Dells during winter is an absolute must. There’s nothing quite like being comfortably and safely strapped in, soaring high above a stunning landscape of snow-covered trees and rolling terrains.

I love the rush of gliding over this beautiful winter wonderland. It’s both exhilarating and serene at the same time. Zip-lining is, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable things I’ve done in Wisconsin Dells during the colder months.

For the best winter zip-lining experiences, I highly recommend Bigfoot Zipline Tours and Vertical Illusion. Both offer unique perspectives of the Dells’ frosty scenery and make for a truly memorable adventure.

2. Unwind yourselves at one of the Indoor Water Parks

One of my favorite ways to escape the winter chill in Wisconsin Dells is by stepping into one of its incredible indoor water parks. You will feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical retreat. The temperature is always just right, warm and cozy, no matter how cold it is outside.

I love spending hours enjoying the indoor pools and soaking in hot tubs. For a little extra excitement, you can hop on a family raft ride, try out the bumper boats, or test your balance on the lily pads. There’s so much to do, from mini-golf and rock climbing walls to sky ropes courses and virtual game arcades. I always find something new to try with each visit.

A day of thrills and amazement at an indoor water park is, for me, one of the most memorable things to do in Wisconsin Dells in winter. If you’re looking for the best spots, I highly recommend the Kalahari Waterpark Resort, Chula Vista Resort and Waterpark, Great Wolf Lodge and Waterpark, and Mt. Olympus Theme and Waterpark. Each offers its own unique attractions and fun for all ages.

3. Take a Wine Tasting Tour at Fawn Creek Winery

I believe there’s always a perfect moment to enjoy a drink during the winter months, and Wisconsin Dells offers plenty of wonderful and welcoming wineries to choose from. One of my personal favorites is Fawn Creek Winery. They serve a fantastic variety of regional and specialty wines that I love exploring each time I visit.

If you are lucky enough to catch a live music event at the winery, it will add even more fun and atmosphere to your experience. There’s something about great music, a cozy setting, and a glass of wine that makes winter days in Wisconsin Dells truly memorable.

4. Indulge in various winter activities in the Christmas Mountain Village

Christmas Mountain Village is one of my absolute favorite resorts in Wisconsin Dells, especially as someone who loves winter outdoor activities. During my stay there, I was impressed by the variety of events and activities scheduled throughout the snowy season.

With around 16 slopes to choose from, you can always find a trail that matches your skill level. Whether you are in the mood for an easy beginner run, an intermediate challenge, or an advanced descent. Skiing and snow tubing at Christmas Mountain Village will become the highlights of your winter trip to Wisconsin Dells.

5. Enjoy Snowboarding, Skiing and Snow Tubing in Cascade Mountain

Just 15 kilometers southeast of Wisconsin Dells, I’ve found Cascade Mountain to be a great spot for embracing all things winter. Snow-tubing, snowboarding, skiing, or simply playing in the fresh snow at one of the beautiful terrain parks, there’s always something fun to do here.

One of my favorite experiences is taking the well-known beginner trail called “Far Out.” It winds through snow-covered forests, past fascinating rock formations and waterfalls, and offers stunning scenery for over a mile. For a real adrenaline rush, there’s also an 800-foot-long chute for snowboarding that I loved to try out.

Cascade Mountain makes it easy for everyone to join in the fun, offering lessons in snowboarding, skiing, and snow tubing for anyone four years or older. If you’re interested in learning, I recommend checking out their private lesson options for a great introduction to winter sports.

6. Get Amazed at the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory

This interactive center features 175 hands-on activities that are sure to spark your imagination. Whether you’re exploring virtual reality, diving into the wonders of space exploration, trying out simulators, or experimenting with scientific marvels, there’s always something new and exciting for you to discover.

One of the biggest thrills is riding a bicycle on what’s known as the thinnest bike trail in the world—a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll remember long after your visit.

A true highlight of the Exploratory is the original Russian Space Station MIR. It’s the only one in the world open to visitors, and stepping inside feels like a journey into the heart of space history. With so many amazing activities, spending a winter day at the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory is, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating and unique things you can do in Wisconsin Dells.

7. Solve Mysteries’ at the Wizard Quest

Wizard Quest is a popular attraction among kids in Wisconsin Dells, and if you’re looking for a fun family activity that keeps you indoors, this is the perfect spot. Inside, you’ll find about 30,000 square feet filled with interactive and adventurous gaming challenges.

As a family, you get to solve riddles together as you explore a series of uniquely designed themed areas. Wizard Quest offers a one-of-a-kind experience in Wisconsin Dells and is truly a must-visit for people of all ages.

8. Take a hike at Devil’s Lake State Park

The stunning Devil’s Lake State Park is incredibly popular for its well-groomed lake and a variety of activities like hiking, snowshoeing, camping, and skiing. It’s actually the most visited state park in Wisconsin, and when you see the views, you’ll understand why. The park offers magnificent scenery, including breathtaking views of the 360-acre Devil’s Lake from 500-foot-high quartzite bluffs.

Each year, Devil’s Lake State Park draws around 1.3 million people. If you hike up the West Bluff trail, which is also part of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail connecting several parks across the state, you’ll have a chance to admire the lake from above and pass through some truly astonishing rock formations along the way.

Take your time to soak in the beauty of the lake, the unique rock formations, and all the natural wonders surrounding Devil’s Lake State Park. Visiting here is definitely one of the unmissable things to do in Wisconsin Dells in winter if you’re craving an exciting outdoor adventure.

9. Attend a Musical Show at the Palace Theater

If you’re looking for some entertainment, plan to catch a show at the renowned Palace Theater. The theater hosts a range of Broadway-style productions, musical bands, and other theatrical acts. If you have kids with you, you’ll love that the theater also showcases Disney classics especially for younger audiences.

10. Spend a day at the Spectacular Mirror Lake State Park

Mirror Lake State Park invites you with its scenic forests, crystal-clear lake, and impressive sandstone bluffs. The main attraction here is the serene lake, surrounded by beautiful views that feel especially magical in winter. You can spend some peaceful time relaxing by the lakeshore, taking in the soft snow and the tranquil atmosphere.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you’ll find plenty of groomed trails for snowshoeing and skiing throughout the park. Mirror Lake State Park is also a fantastic place to watch for local wildlife, making it a perfect winter destination for both relaxation and adventure.

11. Enjoy a fun packed day at Knuckleheads

Knuckleheads is an indoor family entertainment center where you’ll find a massive trampoline park, rope course, gaming arcades, amusement rides, bowling alleys, a 4-D theater, bumper cars, a tornado ride, a roller coaster, and so much more.

When you need a break, the indoor arena offers several restaurants for snacks and meals. Knuckleheads is a must-visit for an enjoyable day out with family or friends. No matter when you go, you’re sure to create fun and memorable moments here.

12. Play Hockey or Go Skating at Lake Delton Ice Arena

The Lake Delton Ice Arena, also known as the Poppy Waterman Ice Arena, is the perfect spot if you love ice skating or want to try out a hockey session. The arena features a large indoor ice skating rink and offers public skating sessions every week.

Before you head over for some ice skating fun, be sure to check their public skating schedule so you can plan your visit accordingly. It’s a great way to enjoy some classic winter fun while you’re in Wisconsin Dells.

As a popular tourist destination, Wisconsin Dells offers a variety of hotels close to all the main attractions. Here are some of the most recommended places to stay, so you can find the perfect fit for your trip:

Budget (Under $50): If you’re looking for an affordable option, The VUE Boutique Hotel is a great choice. This boutique-style hotel offers amazing panoramic views of the upper Wisconsin River, and you can even take a pleasant walk to the riverside right from the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and spacious, ideal for budget travelers.

Mid Range (up to $120): For a bit more comfort, consider the Holiday Inn Express. It’s one of the best mid-range hotels in Wisconsin Dells, featuring beautiful rooms, an indoor pool, a fitness room, and a relaxing whirlpool. The central location makes getting around the Dells easy and convenient.

Luxury ($200+): If you’re in the mood to splurge, Delton Grand Resort and Spa is a top pick. Overlooking the scenic Lake Delton, this luxurious resort features a private beach, spacious apartments with private balconies, an indoor pool, a lakefront spa, a wellness center, and a BBQ area. It’s a favorite among vacationers for good reason.
