Although Jaipur and Udaipur are cities in the same state, Rajasthan, they are very different. Udaipur has its distinct history, sounds, food, and landscapes.
It is the city that displays an abundance of stunning architecture, rich cultural heritage, and the heavenly nature’s beauty. Also known as Venice Of The East and The City Of Lakes, Udaipur has five prominent lakes around the city and is also surrounded by picturesque hills and mountains.
The peacefulness and the pleasurably beautiful attractions in the city left a very mesmerizing and delightful impact on me. And I can go back to Udaipur again and again.
Places to Visit in Udaipur
1. City Palace
The City Palace, Udaipur is one of the major attractions that beautifully portrays the royalty and historical significance of Mewars. This magnificent palace a stunning architecture and is located on the banks of Lake Pichola.
The City Palace exquisitely comprises chambers, rooms, hanging gardens, terraces, alleys and courtyards. You will also find many weapons, artifacts, paintings, and intricate decorations depicting the grandeur and prosperity of the ancient royalties.
The Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors), and Dilkhush Mahal (Palace of Joy) also have lovely and well-preserved decorations. The Crystal Gallery and Vintage Car Museum showcasing beautiful crystal work and an impeccable collection of cars respectively are also worthy of visiting.
City Palace is certainly one of my favorite places to visit in Udaipur and simply should not be missed.

2. Lake Pichola
Lake Pichola is the most scenic and picturesque man-made lake located in the heart of Udaipur City. It is beautifully surrounded by the Aravali Mountains and has two main islands named Jagniwas and Jagmandir Island.
The famous and exquisite Taj Lake Palace is located on Jag Niwas Island. This luxury hotel having the most gorgeous views is a perfect paradise for a romantic and relaxing getaway. This splurge-worthy property is accessible for hotel guests only.
The other significant island, Jagmandir has a beautifully set restaurant open for everyone. This island is easily accessible through the boating service located at the City Palace.
There are many hotels, restaurants, and cafes located at the banks of Lake Pichola offering rooftop views where you can spend time with your loved ones with the backdrop of the delightfully captivating surroundings.

3. Jagmandir Palace
Jagmandir is a magnificent island palace located on the Jagmandir Island. The entrance has a marvelous row of marble statues of elephants around the wall giving a royal look to it and an impression of this beautiful lake palace being guarded by them.
The stunning architecture of the palace also consists of a beautiful garden with the prettiest flowers on its southern side.
The Darikhana restaurant on this island offers multi-cuisine dining and an open cafe where you can dine, adore the impressive surroundings, and capture beautiful memories on this charming island.

4. Bagore Ki Haveli
The Bagore ki Haveli is an ancient royal residence at the Gangaur Ghat on Lake Pichola.
It has now been turned into a museum comprising several rooms having many well-preserved artifacts, paintings, sculptures, weapons, murals, and beautiful glass and stone works also displaying many costumes of the royalties of Mewar.
The Haveli also has a puppet museum set up as a royal courtroom, a turban museum displaying different turban styles of India, and a section depicting the rituals and celebrations followed during an Indian royal wedding.
The Bagore ki Haveli also has a Rajasthani traditional folk dance performance known as the Dharohar Dance show organized during the evening where you can sit back and enjoy the entertaining live show.
Attending the Dharohar Dance show at the Bagore Ki Haveli is one of the culturally enriching places to visit in Udaipur.

5. Monsoon Palace
Monsoon Palace also known as Sajjangarh Fort is a hilltop castle offering enchanting panoramic views of the significant lakes, forests, and mountains around Udaipur city.
Although the castle itself is not very well maintained still the sunset views from this place are an ideal and well worthy reason to visit this ancient royal residence.
The ride to the Monsoon Palace itself is a thrilling and adventurous experience. It is advisable to travel by car or cab to this hilltop attraction.
If you are interested in jungle safari, you may also visit the Sajjangarh Wild Life Sanctuary at the foot of the hill. This sanctuary houses reptiles, jackals, tigers, hyenas, wild boars, and panthers.

6. Fateh Sagar Lake
The Fateh Sagar Lake is another significant lake located north of Lake Pichola. It is an artificial lake comprising three islands which are very well maintained and accessible via boat rides.
The largest island houses the famous Nehru Park which is a beautiful garden island having pretty lawns, fountains, a boat-shaped restaurant, and a small zoo.
The second island has a public park maintained by the Government of Rajasthan while the third island houses the Udaipur Solar Observatory which is the best solar observing site in India.
You may also have a great time at the Fateh Sagar Lake waterfront which has a scenic and relaxing atmosphere. There are many cafeterias offering kullad coffee and snacks to keep you engaged in this awe-worthy environment.

7. Saheliyon Ki Bari
Saheliyon-Ki-Bari also known as the Garden of Maidens is a beautiful garden that is also a very famous tourist spot located at the banks of Fateh Sagar lake.
It was designed and built by King Maharana Sangram Singh for his queen. The queen would come to this garden with her maids to spend some enjoyable and leisure time. The garden has pleasing lush green lawns, a lotus pool, flowerbeds, trees, bird fountains, and marbled elephants sprinkling water.
A stroll on the tidy pathways in this garden is a very pleasurable thing to do for nature lovers, which makes it one of the most eye-pleasing places to visit in Udaipur.

8. Mansapurna Karni Mata Ropeway
Mansapurna Karni Mata ropeway is a popular cable car service connecting Shri Karni Mata Temple at Machhala hilltop and Deendayal Upadhyay Park in Udaipur.
This cable car ride gives you the most spectacular and scenic views of Udaipur city. It’s amazing to see the City Palace, Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, and Aravalli Hills throughout the cable car ride.
If possible try to take the ride about one hour before the sunset time to witness one of the most cherishing sunsets of your life from the hill top.
This city lights up beautifully during the sunset and the lakes seem to sparkle too.
If you don’t prefer a cable car ride, you can climb the hill following the cemented pathway. This a very popular tourist spot and may be crowded during the evenings.

Best Time to Visit Udaipur
The best time to visit Udaipur is during the winter season which falls between October and February. The summer season which falls between March and July must be avoided because they are very hot and extreme.
Also, refer to this perfectly planned 3 day itinerary for your Udaipur trip.
Where to stay in Udaipur
Udaipur City offers a variety of hotels available whether you are on a budget or planning a luxurious stay in this beautiful city.
I would highly recommend you to stay near Lake Pichola since all the major tourist attractions such as the City Palace, Bagore Ki Haveli, Jagdish Temple, etc are just within a short walking distance around the lake.
It’s the best way to explore the city’s culture, food, marketplace, and sightseeing. Here are some of my recommended accommodations in Udaipur that are located near Lake Pichola and of course offer a great lake view;
Mid-Range Budget: Jaiwana Haveli
Luxury Hotel: Oberoi Udaivilas Hotel
Now that you know all the best places to visit in Udaipur, be ready for a wonderful vacation in this city of lakes. The grandeur of the forts, palaces, and cultural heritage in Udaipur is an experience to look out for.
You will definitely be mesmerized by the city’s beauty, calmness, and aesthetic vibes.
